Marriage in the contemporary society represents a means for people to make their relationships official. Being a couple can be a passing concept, but being married means more and it means that an individual should be entitled to a series of rights that normal couples are unable to access. Regardless of the gender of the individuals involved, an official relationship should generally be regarded as a connection between two persons who feel that they are going to stay together for a longer period of time and who plan their future together.
Marriage should not necessarily be destroyed, as society simply needs to accept that it is a formality and that it represents a union between two persons who want to take their relationship one step further by making it official.
